Welcome to our website!

If you're into soaring leads, analogue patches, bombastic symphonies, classical remakes, progressive rock and epic synthesizer music, you've arrived at just the right place!

Galbatron is an electronic music group based in Holland. The band, consisting of Eppo Schaap (a magazine editor, music teacher and translator) and Loek van Kooten (me, a translator), started making music in 1992, when we launched our first album called Sophistication. The original album was launched on cassette tape only, for distribution with an MSX video game called D.A.S.S. (released by Engine Software). In the year 2000, Galbatron was revived when we had found a new outlet for our music on MP3.com. We re-released a cd version of Sophistication and put out a second album called Robotica, only to disappear again because mp3.com had stopped paying their artists for downloads. Though we never had the intention to become rich and famous with our music, we did regard MP3.com's payments for downloads as a symbolic reward and a necessary incentive to continue making music. We also felt that to really get our music off the ground, we had to invest far more time in it than our day jobs and families permitted.

Galbatron's music features prominent use of the synthesizer, and has a majestic, sweeping style with dense, layered arrangements. A standard 4/4 trance beat appears in several songs, but the material is quite varied. For example, we do covers of Widor's Toccata and Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, both originally written for organ. The latter song was our biggest hit ever.

We did make several songs for a third album, Synthetika, in the meantime available for download, but the actual album was never released back then. Our music is often mixed up with Jean Michel Jarre's, especially in peer-to-peer environments.

Recently, our music has become available for download again. On September 26th 2010 the band was once more revived for a comeback; a new website has been launched and our music has become available on digital outlets like iTunes, Amazon and Spotify, just to name a few.

We already launched our first new 2010 track: Nimrod. And several more tracks are in the pipeline. This time we intend to be back for good, but we will need all the help we can get. For that, you guys are absolutely indispensable. So support us, spread the word (review/like/friend us on all major sites like YouTube, Amazon and iTunes) and above all, enjoy the music!

Yay!
I thought you were lost forever! I was with a number of friends when I got your email that you were "back in business" and yelled out "ALL RIGHT!!!" - which stopped everyone talking and made me the center of attention. One of my friends (he plays in the band Porcupine Tree) asked what was going on, to which I replied "Galbatron is BACK!". Which lead to more silence. I gave a brief history and everyone went on their way.

Of course I have your first 2 albums (prized possessions) and can't wait to hear what all these years of teaching and learning and experience are going to produce.

I updated www.last.fm to include your new website url.

Finally, did I miss something? I read that tracks for the 3rd album were made available for download. Where??!?!

Welcome all! You are real pioneers and it shows, as your user number has only one digit!

No worries Naus! Besides the occasional vocoder samples we won't introduce singers anymore. Light One Candle was a one-time experiment. We loved it, you didn't and we hopefully learned from that.

And thank you for spreading the word!

That's quite a famous band, isn't it? Their name is plastered all over the internet these days!

Prized indeed. Even I don't have them anymore (I gave the last one away to a desperate listener whose name I forgot). These have become very rare. Who knows, after we have died in bitter poverty in 50 years or so, people may finally realize that they are real gems and actually start offering money for them!

O, and thank you for the update on last.fm!

You can find the tracks for the never-finished Synthetika album on LINK Soon we'll bundle them and sell them as an album on iTunes, Spotify and other digital outlets.

I believe the whole concept of albums is a bit outdated anyway. Instead of letting you guys wait for years until we have finally finished another 8 tracks, we think it's best to regularly release singles... and bundle them when we've got about 8 of them or so. This way there will actually be something to talk about, and it will also enable us to get feedback from you and implement that in later tracks.

Hi guys,

Just became a member of your site today.
I'm a big fan of your music, I think I heared your track "Love in Space" back in 1998 and really loved it.

I have a question, where can I get your music on CD?
I really want to get my hands on all three albums, please let me know.

Thanks and keep up the good job!

Hi mi_trooper,

Thank you for your support and for registering at our site!

If you are referring to the physical cd: we're currently working on a physical wav quality cd of Robotica: LINK

Things are taking a bit longer than expected, due to some confusion at the lab's end where the actual cd's will be burned. However, we do know that the master cd's are currently underway from the States to Holland for a last sound check. If everything is okay, we will send the masters back to the US so that they can go into mass production for those who choose to order the physical cd at for example Amazon and other physical outlets.

If the physical copy of Robotica is a success, we may also release physical copies of Synthetika and Sophistication, whichever you prefer.

If you are referring to the digital copies of our albums: Synthetika and Robotica are already available at iTunes and Amazon as you're reading this. You can find the links in the left menu.

iTunes: LINK
Amazon Robotica: LINK
Amazon Synthetika: LINK

Tracks of Sophistication are currently only available at Soundclick: LINK (only per track, not as an album yet, unfortunately).

Don't hesitate to fire any other questions you may have, and thank you for your continued support!

Just going to chime in now that I'm finally registered (I started the Facebook group and have been following Loek's progress since the guys announced it) and I have got to say, I'm uber excited about the singles approach.

I have never been so excited about a return from a musicial favorite of mine as I am with these guys. If you're reading this or thinking about registering, definitely step up and say hi.
